The Ewe Canadian Cultural Organization of Ontario (ECCOO), a non-profit organization, was founded in 1993 and incorporated in August of 1994.

Ewe is a tribal language spoken by the Ewe tribes with about 3 million speakers in Ghana, Togo and Benin. The Ewe is a tonal language with four tones: a rising tone marked by an acute (é), a falling tone marked by a grave accent (è), a falling-rising tone marked by a caron accent (?) and a rising-falling accent marked by a circumflex accent (ê).
