ABOUT UZIMA

Uzima Women Relief Group International was founded in 2012 by the current Executive Director, Jacobet E. Wambayi. In 2007, she was appointed to the Ministerial Advisory Council on HIV & AIDS. The Council advises the Federal Minister of Health on the Federal Initiative on HIV & AIDS.

UZIMA VALUES

Respect, Accountability, Integrity, Honesty. Uzima Women Relief Group International is a non-profit organization incorporated in 2012. Uzima is a Kiswahili word meaning wellness. The organization works to alleviate poverty and augment wellness among at-risk populations facing health challenges brought about by a lack of access to better economic opportunities. Also, Uzima focuses on medical care and medicines, good nutrition, and education for both women and men, with a focus on women’s empowerment.

OUR WORK

To meet today’s challenges, we must position ourselves through our rigour in work as a strong, edified, and dynamic community.

RESPECT

All members must maintain respect and consideration for each other in the context of interactions within the association.

TRUST

All members must cultivate relationships based on establishing and strengthening trust, a guarantee of solidarity and cohesion.

TRANSPARENCY

The association considers transparency and accountability as key principles that guide its actions. This transparency is essential to maintain the trust of members and partners.

EFFICIENCY (IN ACTION)

The focus on the results of the activities is crucial for the association. It is through concrete results that the association plans to strengthen public confidence in its actions.

HOW LARGE IS YOUR ORGANIZATION?

Our organization covers about 17 cities, including the GTA, with about 1800 members.

ACHIEVEMENT

  • School grant for grade 12 student.
  • Food bank.
  • COVID clinic vaccination.
  • Tutoring program.
  • Entrepreneurs’ day, etc.

CHALLENGES

  • Reaching all families.
  • Supporting newcomers.
  • Financial resources.
  • Place to gather and meet.

GOALS FOR THE ORGANIZATION

  • Put in place a community office space.
  • Reach all families.
  • Offer assistance to newcomers (job, housing, health).
